Am I right for the programme?
Am I right for the Screen Academy Bradford Programme?
So, you may have seen posters about the academy pop up in window displays around town, or on a community WhatsApp group, a tweet, on Facebook, the local paper, or you may have heard me talk about it on BCB Radio. Well, it’s massive news! In August, the BBC announced the exciting new Crime Drama, VIRDEE, written by A.A Dhand, to be filmed in and around Bradford. And better still, there’s new opportunities for screen sector training and jobs with the new Screen Academy, working on this production. You may be wondering, is this really happening? I mean, opportunities like this just don’t come up north, do they? TV shows are made by people in the big cities, with big producers with fancy titles.
Is it even legit?
Well, let me tell you, as a common Yorkshire lass, with big dreams, just like you - YES, it absolutely is!
You may be thinking, I’ve always wanted to work in TV but life got in the way. Are you someone who already has an established career in another sector but now wants to move? Newly out of university but just don’t know which way to go? Have a bit of experience doing odd bits in the industry but want the opportunity to skill up? Move up the ladder? Looking for an apprentice-ship? Work in theatre? Perhaps you had to take time off work for family commitments but now feel like it’s too late to go back to further education? Are a hairdresser, or a make-up artist, but have never set foot on a filming set? You might be a fitness instructor, but always dreamt of being a stunt star? Maybe accounting for a TV production? Don’t even know where to start?
Listen, I know it’s confusing. But if you’re wondering if you are eligible for this programme, (and as long as you are over 18, and not in full time education), then the simple answer is, you are.
